Last night I was with my sister in the Starbucks near Lan Kwai Fong. Since my mom was at a scout's meeting and my housekeeper was out for the night, dad decided to take us out for dinner after he had finished gym at 7.

We came early and I ordered a caramel latte, observing the hordes of yuppie Caucasians getting off the buses and hiking up the steep D'Aguilar Street in order to sit in smoky pubs, drinking overpriced beers and winking at pretty Asian women who 'happened' upon the seats next to them.

A man with nice cheekbone structure and Adrian Brody-esque eyes came in and ordered a double expresso shot, only to be joined later on by a tall, beautiful woman who was a little over enthusiastic about hugging him.

Even wrinkly men about 70 have a woman clinging to their arm.

Anyways, while was observing this, my sister bought a hot chocolate and we waited for half an hour for our dad.

Eventually he showed up and we followed the steady stream of people up D'Aguilar. We were almost instantly stopped by a loudly dressed man handing out fliers for the Maharani Mess. It looked good, so we followed him up to the 2nd floor of a building, where the door opened up to a very small flat converted into a restaurant. It was very small, just barely enough room to maneuver. The room was filled with red clothed tables and on the far wall was a tapestry of the Taj Mahal.

Best Indian food I had in a long long time. I think the restaurant is owned by a family and everything is home cooked. The lamb korma was especially good. The price wasn't too bad, and dad let us try sweet lassies -yoghurt drinks made of goat milk. I wanted to have a daquiri but didn't voice it when he handed me the non-alcoholic drink list.

We finally returned home at ten, stuffed and unable to sleep. Must go there with friends sometime.
