2003-12-19 - 7:32 p.m. OMFG! ROTK!! *cannot speak* SPOILERS, SO HERE WE GO! I was so unbelievably blown away. Now I'm watching FOTR and it seems so tame in comparison... But anyways. There was this one part that really blew me away. At Minas Morgul, when Frodo walks towards the entrance, the music keeps cresdendoing and you think your ears are going to burst then... the music just stops. I thought I'd gone deaf, then the green light shoots out and out explodes the Witchking and the music keeps on playing, like the pause was a cadenza and the Witchking was the soloist. It was fantastic. However, did not like Elijah Wood's acting in some parts, especially his stretched-eyes-constipation. And Legolas's lines were so... cringe. But I loved the Paths of the Dead. And Gollum had some dark comedy thing going on, really enjoyed that too. The opening was really creative, to start off like that. The audience rocked! They cheered at the titles and the victories in the battle sequences (everyone clapped when Legolas slid off the trunk of the Oliphaunt). A group of girls off to the side squealed at every close up. A much much smaller group squealed at Aragorn close ups. I was just sinking lower into my seat, hoping the hooded person riding up to the Rohirrim camp wasn't Arwen. I was annoyed that they cut the Scouring of the Shire, but was thankful later, when I realized how much PJ indulged us book readers. Adri was telling me that they should've cut the whole "boat thing" and "Sam's wedding". I guess any other director would have just ended it at the Shire, or even at Minas Tirith. BUT I heard that in the Extended DVD they will put in that part and much more Saruman. I hope they put in more Palantiri and add more about the Flooding of Isengard. Now... the age of LOTR has ended. Hmm.
